Travel attire is usually a trade-off between comfort and style.

US First Lady, Melania Trump (48), showed her sartorial finesse as she jetted off with the President on Marine One for a week-long trip to Europe. She wore a belted A-line skirt by Paris-based designer, Martin Grant,  paired with a red, round-neck top with long sleeves, but alas, no handbag. However, it was her chic footwear that captured all the attention.

She wore a pair of fun and fabulous shoes by French label, Christian Louboutin. Although she is not actually going to the City of Lights, the vertiginous heels are stamped with the word Paris along with the designer’s famous signature. The iconic red-soled Louboutins are not only flattering on Mrs. Trump’s tall slim frame, they also look elegant at every angle. ‘Cause even when Melania can’t see the camera, it sees her.

According to the brand’s website, the pumps are inspired by the Paris neighbourhood of Pigalle and the Moulin Rouge cabaret and the Divan du Monde concert hall. Interestingly, they are made with Kraft paper from Louboutin’s shopping bags and shoe boxes, which is hand-torn before being placed under PVC. Thus each shoe is unique and has, according to the website, an audacious trash flair. Indeed.

Upon arrival, the President’s wife departed the aircraft in a classic British Burberry trench coat and another pair of Louboutin heels.

During their first presidential visit to the UK, the Trump’s itinerary includes a dinner at Blenheim Palace, home of the Duke and Duchess of Marlborough; a journey to Buckinghamshire, to meet with Theresa May at Chequers; and an audience with the Queen at  Windsor Castle.

Her skirt silhouette calls back to Dior’s “New Look” — a nice echo to the Paris shoes.
