Summer Sun

Better late than never, as they say.

Last year, in her annual best and worst sunscreen review video, Angie from the YouTube channel, Hot & Flashy, picked Australian Gold Botanical Sunscreen Tinted Face Mineral Lotion SPF 50 as the best sunscreen of 2017. At the time, it wasn’t available in Canadian stores, so online was the only option.

Fast forward 9 months, and it’s here! This winning sun product is now available on our drugstore shelves—the very bottom shelf, but it’s there if you’re looking.

Facial sunscreens are the trickiest sunscreen to get right. And, let’s face it, the most important. Pretty much anything works on your body, but, as many of us can attest to, if your facial screen cream is gloopy, oily, sticky, smelly, or leaves a white cast, you’re just not going to use it. Plus, it has to play well with makeup, which is no easy task.

Sunscreen has taken a rightful place in our daily skincare routine (cleanse-serums-moisturiser-sunscreen-makeup) because the one thing we know for sure, is that sunscreen is the best anti-ageing product there is.

Ultraviolet (UV) rays from the sun cause more than 90 percent of the visible signs of ageing, which include wrinkles, rough patches, sagging, and skin discoloration.

The Australian Gold formula applies like a dream and finishes with a matte affect. This sounds good, but it’s a “powder-like matte finish”, which, unless you have very oily skin, isn’t necessarily the look women-of-a-certain-age are after. I’m trying to add some glow to it with my makeup: Clarins SOS  Radiance PrimerHourglass Illusion Hyaluronic Skin Tint, and other creamy products, and so far I not sure if I’ll stick with this sunscreen or keep looking.

Angie’s winning product this year is Make P:rem Defense Me SPF 50+ PA++++ .

It isn’t available in Canada.

Maybe next year.
