Keeping Up With Iris

I’m so busy, I work like a crazy person. I love to work, and particularly the last two-and-a-half years since I lost my darling husband, who was with me for 68 years. We were in business together and everything else, so the loss was monumental. And I decided that to keep my sanity, I better just work even harder, because if I stay home and think, I’ll be very unhappy. God was good to me, and I got a lot of interesting commissions. All kinds: designing, modelling, speaking, travelling and so I’ve been working like mad.

Indeed! Since I wrote about Iris in my Icons post two years ago (2016, here), the exuberant style maven has done an impressive number of projects:

Matell created a one-off Iris Apfel Barbie doll who dons a miniature replica of the green Gucci suit Apfel wears on the cover of Accidental Icon. Although you can’t buy the Iris barbie, she apparently has styled ensembles for two Barbie dolls that will be sold this fall. She’ll create adult-sized versions of these outfits for the Home Shopping Network.

The Iris homage includes pieces available for sale as well as items from her own closet and from the Peabody Essex Museum in Salem, Massachusetts, which houses more than 900 pieces from her wardrobe as part of its permanent collection.
