In the Pink

Happy Valentine’s Day!

A day devoted to red and pink, and Rosé.

Little Farm Rosé, 2016, British Columbia, Canada

The wine is a local one and deserves kudos to its makers, Rhys Pender MW and Alishan Driediger, of Little Farm Winery. It is truly wonderful.

Made from 100% Cabernet Franc grapes grown at Blind Creek Vineyard.

A crisp, refreshing, dry and savoury rosé. The nose shows juicy red fruit like strawberry, red berries, some orange zest, spice and savoury dried herb notes. The palate is dry, crisp and refreshing with bright red fruit, some savoury lees texture and complexity and a long finish with stony mineral notes that speak of the Similkameen Valley.

~ Tasting Notes

Little Farm makes interesting, characterful, natural-ish, small batch, single-vineyard wines. Using minimal manipulation and intervention, their wines reflect the terroir and the growing season. The focus is on wine-growing rather than wine-making.

The name Little Farm Winery was inspired by the French term paysan. Whilst reading an article about some of the natural wine producers of France, one wine grower preferred to be called a paysan, or small farmer, as he translated it. It struck us that we are small farmers too and that we were the paysan’s of our little farm.

An impressive and delicious rosé that I wish I had a case of.

Another superb rosé for Valentine’s Day and beyond:  Lafage Miraflors Rosé, 2016, Languedoc-Roussillon, France

This beautiful and elegant frosted-glass bottle makes a perfect gift for the one you love, or just for you. This rosé isn’t just resting on its good-looks laurels either—the wine is magnificent.IMG_9726

Leave it to the French to seal it with a stunning glass stopper.

Light in colour, yet not in flavour, the 2016 Côtes du Roussillon Miraflors Rose (70% Mourvèdre and 30% Grenache Gris) offers terrific notes of white cherries, strawberries and rose petals in a medium-bodied, layered, impeccably balanced style that’s just hard to resist.

~ 91 POINTS Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate

If you love Rosé as much as I do, celebrate Valentine’s Day with a little pink in your glass.
