My partner, Jay, breathed a sigh of relief the other day, and officially declared himself On Christmas Holidays. When you work from home, you rarely have the sense of being out of the office when your desk is a 22 second commute from bed. Then he stated, Christmas is such a relaxing time. I laughed aloud. Loudly.
Other than the decorating, the shopping, the baking, the cooking, and the entertaining…ya ya …relaxing.
I’m sure, you, dear reader, have the holiday well in hand.
But have you thought about your holiday look?
You have two options: EYES or LIPS.
At Christmas there is a lot of eating, drinking, and perhaps even kissing going on under the mistletoe, so you want your makeup to last through it all without requiring a million fussy touch-ups.
That’s where a strong eye is a brilliant strategy. Other than becoming misty-eyed when presented with a little blue box of your dreams, your eye-makeup should stay in place from hors d’oeuvres to nightcaps. Even under dim, twinkling lights, your eyes will be the centre of attention. Never a bad thing.
As I was out gift shopping, I stopped by the Beauty Boutique for a couple of cosmetic items for moi: Clarins Instant Concealer (this is fabulous for mature skin and eliminates those late-night-dark circles!) and a unique eye-shadow just perfect for Christmas: Moondust Eyeshadow by Urban Decay.
I didn’t get the one I intended to buy because it is the most popular (read sold-out everywhere) shade of the line: Space Cowboy, a subtle rose-gold shimmer And I can see why it’s the star of the collection: it’s an ethereal, almost translucent glimmer that I‘m hoping it will be back in stock in time for New Years. So instead, I went with another dazzling shade, Intergalactic.
Now before you dismiss sparkly eyeshadow as not for you as a-woman-of-a-certain-age, hear me out. I am the Queen of the nude and neutral eye, but it’s Christmas, and you want to look special. I assure you, this is for you.
And, delightfully, for me, too.
You’ve never seen a sparkly shadow this sophisticated. Urban Decay’s Moondust Eyeshadow is dazzlingly sparkly but with a super refined, incredibly sophisticated feel (and not a single speck of chunky glitter). Microfine bits of iridescent sparkle collide with intense, dreamy hues and lush, 3-D metallics—for an effect that’s out of this world. New technology gives Moondust an amazing effect not found in traditional pressed-powder shadows. It feels like a cream but goes on like a powder to create a smooth, brilliantly reflective look. The result? Sexy, twinkling sparkle with a ton of depth and movement. (And a LOT of questions about what you’re wearing!).

Intergalactic is a silvery purple hue. I think it would look fabulous layered with the pinkish-redish offering called Glitter Rock. These are all-over-lid shadows patted on and blended out with fingers. It can be applied wet for a bolder sparkle, or dry over eyeshadow for a hint of shimmer. The pigments catch the light beautifully and livens up any eye colour.
Glimmer can be worn day and night at Christmas. Since the eyes are the focus of this pretty, festive look, the skin should be radiant (sheer foundation), with a softly metallic pink blush (yes, it’s all about the glimmer and glitter) with a soft lip colour to keep the look fresh but not too glamorous or ~over~the~top.
So add a bit of sparkle and flare to your Christmas celebration.
