Cult Classic

The Mason Pearson hairbrush is a cult-classic which dates back to 1885. Yet over a century later, it is the hair tool on every hairstylist’s, fashion/beauty editor’s, and celebrity’s top shelf list.

So why is it so desirable? And so expensive?

Think of it as the Hermes handbag of hairbrushes.  These brushes are not mass-produced; they are still made in England using the highest quality materials and craftsmanship available; much of the work is still done by hand using the techniques originated and patented by founder, Mason Pearson.

If cared for properly, these brushes will last a lifetime.  Stories abound on the internet about the longevity and heirloom nature of Mason Pearson brushes. You can keep buying cheap hairbrushes year after year, or buy one good one. If you calculate your cost per daily use over, say 20, 30, or 40 years, buying a Mason Pearson brush is actually a savvy beauty investment.

It makes your hair glossier and healthier.  Flexible bristles within the handmade rubber-cushion core, and an air hole at the top which allows for air flow, makes the brush efficient and effective.

A natural bristle brush gently massages and stimulates the scalp and redistributes natural oils along the hair shaft from root to tip. This banishes frizz and flyaways, encourages hair growth, and delivers shine, shine, shine.

I purchased the Sensitive model, an all-boar bristle brush designed for people with thinning or very fine hair. Only the child’s brush is more gentle.

There are many types and sizes to choose from depending upon on your hair type. They also come in a range of colours, so it looks good, too. Mine is Dark Ruby.

If you aren’t sure which brush is best for you, there is a guide on the Mason Pearson website that gives recommendations based on the data you supply about your hair.

I wanted a Mason Pearson brush for forever, and last year, I finally bought one. I love it, and even though it’s pricey, it’s worth it.

Another check off my beauty bucket list.
