Whitney Wallet

Whitney Wallet

My MaxMara Whitney handbag collection expanded recently to include the baby of the family—the Whitney mini.

I hadn’t really hopped on the mini bag trend, but I have to say, I absolutely love this bag! Especially since I am not one who carries their life in their handbag. I’m a minimalist: wallet, keys, lipstick, phone.

I find myself reaching for my little Whitney when I am dashing out the door, and wear it cross-body, as a shoulder bag, and hand-held as well. The epitome of versatility. And it’s just so adorable.

However, I discovered that my zip-around wallet was too big for its scaled-down dimensions. Naturally, I needed a mini wallet to go in the mini Whitney.

I looked at many contenders—Balenciaga, Gucci, Celine—before I found this red one. I immediately thought it must be the coordinating Whitney Wallet so closely did the design reflect that of the bag.

But, in fact, it was not designed Renzo Piano, architect of the new Whitney Museum and designer of the MaxMara Whitney handbag, but by Reed Krakoff,  former executive creative director of Coach.

The wallet leather is soft and sumptuous with a grey leather interior, six card slots, a snap closure at front, and a change compartment with a beautiful silver-toned logo clasp closure at top. It’s  5.5″ wide whereas the purse is 9″ across, so it’s a perfect fit without being a squeeze.

It makes a stylish pairing. I just wonder why MaxMara hasn’t released a Whitney accessory line.

Every Whitney needs a wallet.
