Chanel Suits

High on my Fashion Bucket List, is a Chanel tweed suit. Ideally vintage. Alas, I did not inherit one from my mother; and I know there isn’t one lurking in my mother-in-law’s wardrobe either.

So when Karl Lagerfeld brought suit after elegant suit down the runway at the Chanel Spring-Summer 2017 Haute Couture show today at Paris’s Grand Palais, I just sat back and swooned. Some day, I say.

The show included dazzling evening gowns embellished with sequins, feathers, and sparkles, but my eyes were on the suits.

The collection’s guiding thread was a palette of delicate hues brightened by metallic notes in an impeccably designed silhouette, creating a Haute Couture spirit which owes its elegance to its absolute minimalism.

Pastel tones of beige, pink, yellow, green and blue, together with grays and whites, are combined with touches of silver, sequins, and shimmering colours for a fresh look.

The silhouette is very feminine, with a belt slighlty higher than the waiste, structured shoulders, and a focus on the hips.

The suits follow the same line, some belted, others draped at the waist with a tulip skirt, softened with a lavaliere to create the trompe-l’oeil effect of a coat dress. Under shimmering tweed coats, pleated skirts and dresses in pales shades form a striking contrast

You may wish to ignore the return of the anklet (even though it is pearl), but there is no denying the necessity of a belt.
