Sauve Italian

One of Italy’s most fashionable whites from the Piedmont region, exhibiting an elegant dryness, fresh notes of lime and citrus, and a flinty minerality. Gavi is often called the Italian equivalent of Chablis.

  • WINE: Fontanafredda Gavi DOCG 2014
  • GRAPE: 100% Cortese
  • REGION: Piedmont, Italy
  • ALCOHOL: 12.5%
  • AGEING: 2-3 months in steel
  • CLOSURE: Cork
  • STYLE: Dry, Light-Bodied
  • PAIRING: Excellent Aperitif, delicious with hors-d’oeuvres, fish and shellfish dishes. Perfect summer or party/dinner party wine.

The problem of Fontanafredda in Canada is that its been here so long that you project on it preconceived notions that has nothing to do with it here and now. That couldn’t be further from the truth – this wine is as current and delicious now as it ever was. Almonds, herbed honey, citrus and cracked stone aromas carry through onto the lively palate, one cushioned with a light sheen of waxiness. More of cortese de gavi’s lively quince, grapefruit and mineral energy rides the length of the lean body along to a salty, snappy finish. Shellfish dishes welcome here.
