Oh, the excitement of a birthday!
It is always a family affair in our home; we’ve never done the birthday hullabaloo with 101 kids and games and party favours.
Just a special dinner, a present or two, and a cake. Always a cake, made by Mum.
This year the birthday cake, chosen by Max, is from Rosie Daykin’s, Butter Baked Goods: Recipes from a Little Neighborhood Bakery. Whew! We just call it Butter. And it’s our go-to cookbook for anything sweet. Her second cookbook, Butter Celebrates, is now available and is on my Christmas wish list (wink, wink).
The angel food cake recipe is called Nancy’s Birthday Cake, and as Daykin recommends, we made the Marshmallow Fluff Frosting. Twenty egg whites later, we can only say that it is a match made in heaven.
A perfect afternoon project on this Remembrance Day /Max’s birthday.
We added Smarties and twelve candles. An absolute hit.
